Hi, it’s 2024, and this year, seinen anime is gaining less traction when compared to shonen anime, but still, some of the seinen anime have made their mark in the anime industry this year.

We will learn about 7 such animes, which can be some potential deal breakers for the seinen genre this year.

However, before we discuss that, let us quickly remind ourselves, what a seinen anime is.

let us quickly remind ourselves, what a seinen anime is

Anime of the seinen genre is mainly aimed at young adult(18-26) demographics.

Anime of this genre strongly focuses on the plot.

Characters, and their interaction, intention, and transformation are also paid more attention to while creating these animes.

Rather than focusing on action and protagonist, such animes focus on the flow of the overall story and the action and consequences of any of the characters related to the plotline.

Even though, there may be some exceptions, however, know that mainly animes aimed at those above-mentioned demographics can be categorized under seinen genre.

Now enough with the chatter, let’s break the bread, and jump right into those 5 gems I’ve carefully curated for you.

Table of Contents

7 Great Seinen Anime of The Year 2024

The Witch And The Beast

The Witch And The Beast

Guideau is the soul of a powerful beast in a young girl’s body.

No, really, he is a full-grown, wild beast with a masked face and, a pitch-black right arm, dubbed the natural enemy of witches.

Yes, it’s a world with witches and magic, but don’t expect some isekai vibe from the story.

It is as real as it can get, with action and its consequences, kind of stuff.

Now, the story is, that Guideau is cursed by a particularly infamous witch, Angela Anne Huell, I guess his curse was to be trapped in the body of a young girl.

Now he had to find a solution to that curse and given how spitefully of a character he is, he also had to take revenge.

He joins the Order of Magical Resonance, an organization that deals with everything related to magic.

Accompanied by a soft-spoken agent of the order, Ashaf, who dabbles a little bit in magic and carries his original body into a coffin strapped on his back, Guideau traverses the land in search of that witch.

On their long journey, they chance upon many peculiar magic-related happenings.

Spice And Wolf Remake

Spice And Wolf Remake

This is a remake of its predecessor of the 2008 release.

2008’s version of Spice and Wolf was also quite famous among viewers for its nice storytelling and impressionable characters, but the remake of 2024 also has excellent animation.

As for the story, it is as follows.

The story revolves around a lone traveling merchant, Kraft Lawrence.

Being lonely has become an occupational hazard for him as he travels from town to town with his horse and cart.

He makes a deal out of whatever legit goods come his way.

One time, he visits an old acquaintance’s village for business only to find him busy with the arrangement of the local harvest festival, “The Festival of Holo”.

According to locals, Holo is the deity of the harvest, and on the day of the harvest festival, they celebrate to appease the deity in the hope of a bountiful harvest next year.

Not being able to meet his friend, Lawrence had to leave the village and as night fell he had to stop and camp in the wilderness.

But, to his wonder, an attractive girl with wolf ears and a tail, was sleeping in his cart with his merchandise(costly fur and pelt).

She was Holo, the deity of harvest, mentioned by the villagers.

She wasn’t any goddess but a mystic wolf, according to her claim.

Her place of origin was far in the north where she wanted to return, as she was wearied of protecting the harvest in the Village.

Holo strikes a deal with Lawrence to lend her smarts in return he will take her to her original home in the north.

After Lawrence accepts the deal, their journey begins.

The journey continues as they visit many places, doing many kinds of business with the help of the Wise Holo and experiencing many different encounters.

A finely mixed glass of drink(alcohol) is all you need.

There’s a bar, Eden Hall, hidden in the backstreet of the Ginja district.

A bartender, Sasakura Ryo, an elite mixologist, runs the place.

Now the story of this particular seinen anime is about this bar and the bartender.

Customers from different walks of life shouldering burdens come to this bar they chance upon and Ryo mixes the right kind of drink according to what customers need.

Ryo’s insightful kind words with the godly drink he mixes work like a miracle to those wearied souls.

Watch as Ryo pushes their back towards a new light in the walk of life.

By the way, this is a remake of its 2006 predecessor.

Astro Note

Astro Note

This seinen anime is a boy meets girl kind of love story.

The only difference is it’s a “star-crossed” love story, yes literally!!

This story revolves around a laid-off gifted chef Takumi.

He came to a boarding house named, Astro-lodge, hooked by a misguiding advertisement of a restaurant hiring a chef.

That boarding house had its fair share of quirky residents, tired of caretaker Mira’s disaster of meals.

Later he learned that he had to stay in that boarding house full-time as a cook but that wasn’t his intention.

he cooked a hearty meal as a sign of farewell and left, but soon returned as the sight of Mira tugged the string of his heart.

The story starts as Takumi and Mira start to get involved with each other more and more and develop a deeper connection.

But, remember what I said about how this seinen anime is a story of a “star-crossed” love story, well that is because Mira is not from Earth.

He previously completed numerous jobs for various clients, but it’s not going to be the same, as his boss ordered him to lay low as an ordinary citizen for a year.

His boss told him to gain life experience as an ordinary citizen as it may prove to be useful in the future in his line of work.

The woman who drives him around, whom he calls Car-Navi Woman, is going to accompany him on his one-year-long sabbatical as his pretending sister by the name of Satou Yoko while he will assume the name of Satou Akira.

But, there’s a catch, he can’t kill anyone in this upcoming year or he and his Car-Navi Woman will die by their boss’s hand.

It’s been a long time since an anime on an occultic theme came out.

The story is as follows.

Ogawa Sumireko was an accomplished author in her youth, but soon became burned out.

Now she works as a bookstore clerk at Midori Bookstore while dreaming of becoming a novelist.

Being an avid fan of the occult, after coming in contact with an occultic phenomenon, at first, she became excited but soon realized the underlying danger accompanying that.

Her coworker Adashino Ren, who is only talkative and flirtatious to her somehow saves her.

There is a deep secret Ren is hiding about him.

However, soon strange occurrences started to pop up here and there in the city, and she and Ren teamed up to investigate them.

Now the question is, what will they find?

Heavenly Delusion

Heavenly Delusion

Even though this seinen anime is not from this year, it’s still good enough to mention in this segment.

This seinen anime depicts a dystopian world, where disaster struck human civilization 15 years ago.

Man-eating monsters roam amidst the devastated lands as threats to remaining survivors.

An isolated facility named by unfortunate survivors, “Tomato Heaven”, shelters children and nurtures them in a peaceful environment.

However, a few of those children find out about the world outside of their outside, beyond their tall wall and their childlike curiosity grows.

On the other hand, in the outside world, a 15-year-old young survivor, Maru accompanied by his escort/bodyguard, an 18-20-year-old Kiruko searches for a special place called Heaven.
