As the premium episode 6 of Kaiju no.8 has been released, let us shine a spotlight on its story along with previous incidents.
The story, which was in its introductory phase until its previous episode is slowly entering a more engaging storyline.
Being the first episode to propel the important characters towards their respective path to be more quirky, this episode may get more traction.
Now, as to why it is perceived that this may happen is another factor.
To know that, we need to know its difference from the previous episode of Kaiju no.8.
Previously…
In the previous episode of Kaiju no.8, episode 5, the protagonist(Kafka Hibino) along with other important characters showed their capabilities and individuality.
Some of the important individuals with different characteristic traits took different actions which were in view briefly.
Be it, Kafka makes himself a mere laughing stock.
As he tries to assure Mina Ashiro, the captain of the third division, about his determination in the enrollment ceremony.
This showed Kafka’s desperate mentality to achieve his goal.
Kikoru Shinomiya was searching for a glimpse of Kafka at the enrollment ceremony. She was doing that because the one to be responsible for defeating the Honju was Kafka. So, he is the one to receive thanks. This shows her responsible and grateful nature.
There is also a determined Reno Ichikawa. He gave his all, even in his training to improve to his best self.
On the other hand, Iharu Furuhashi, Did not want to accept his defeat to Reno. That is why he did his training again and again until he did better than him. This showed his competitive side.
Aoi Kaguragi and Haruichi Izumo have a friendly competitiveness between them during training season.
Soshiro Hoshina was sympathetic. He allowed Kafka to study in the library for extra hours. He did so, after learning about his conviction to stand side by side with Captain Mina.
Next…
As a sudden mission alert came, every recruit was getting ready for action.
This was the time to show the mettle and overcome difficulties.
In this phase of the story, every important character has to prove their worth and display their quirkiness to be one of the best.
Protagonist Kafka, being as desperate as he was, puked even before the mission started. He couldn’t handle the pressure of the expectations he set for himself!!
Despite his condition, he had to ready himself as he couldn’t stand to fail this time.
His battle power unleashed by the suit was only 1%. He also had a major setback on his first attempt to stand on the front line. As a result, he had to stay at the back until further order.
He showed his humorous nature nicely in a scene.
The scene, where at first he came face to face with a Yoju in all seriousness but the Yoju sent him flying away due to weakness.
But later, when Kikoru decimated the Yoju, he praised her with a big thumbs up from under the wreckage!
Paths
Kafka and Reno
In previous episodes, Kafka Hibino and Reno Ichikawa were compatriots of the same goal taking the same path.
But in this episode, their path separates.
Each of them pursued their path to reach their goal of being best at the 3rd division of the defense force.
Unlike other animes, where the protagonist competes with his rival to become the best, here Reno and Kafka influenced and helped each other to become a better version of themselves.
Reno fought in the front line utilizing his battle strategy and strength.
Kafka stayed back and used his brain as a veteran of the Kaiju cleaning crew.
Learning the anatomy, weakness, and the threat possessed by the newly spawned Yoju he reported them to Vice-captain, Hoshina.
Hoshina even praised him for his contribution.
Reno vs Furuhashi
On the other hand, Furuhashi was seriously competing against Reno, as he was showing some excellent results by improving his fighting technique.
Furuhashi, despite being a graduate of the academy, couldn’t catch up to him, which frustrated him, but he still followed him in awe.
Mina
There was another situation where Mina, kept shooting at the Honju repeatedly.
She did so, even after there weren’t any vital signs from it.
She was doing that to destroy any offspring inside it.
The control center was worried that she was overdoing it.
She was clearly showing off to Kafka. She did that to show that by the challenge they set in their childhood, she was the winner.
The challenge was to compete to become the best defense force member first.
While Kafka was in awe, vice-captain Hoshina further set the goal bigger for him.
He did so, by displaying his skill and strength and showing what it meant to stand by Mina.
Aoi Kaguragi and Haruichi Izumo
After the Honju died, finally the spawns inside it broke out in large numbers.
There was an instance, where Tae Nakanoshima, the platoon leader, asked tired Aoi Kaguragi and Haruichi Izumo to take a rest in the back and leave the rest to their seniors.
But, here they show their persistence and refuse to back off.
They jumped back into action.
Finally…
This premium episode closed its curtain in a dangerous cliffhanger, where another humanoid Kaiju, showed in episode 4, again showed up in human form.
Reno and Furuhashi encountered him, and now…
