Akame ga Kill, this anime is somewhat different from mainstream action anime.
This anime is closer to being a dark fantasy.
As it is a character-rich anime, Akame ga Kill focuses on many aspects of the characters present.
As the story progresses, different characters face different outcomes.
All the paths the characters walked on brought forth different kinds of stories, romance is one such topic.
Akame ga Kill may be focused too much on the darker side but there are undertones of romance there.
Albeit very little, some very touching love stories are placed as subplots in a very sensible and inconspicuous way.

Love in Akame ga Kill
Love and story of Akame ga Kill, the combination of both is unique, as both are mismatched with each other.
Whereas, love is a brighter aspect of life, the story of the Akame ga Kill shows the darkest depth of human society.
But still, somehow both of those aspects exist together.
Some of the characters who were oblivious to this bright side of life, fell right into it unbeknownst to them.
Whereas there are examples of using love as a driving force to brave through difficulties.
Now, let’s know about all the potential love stories present in the anime series, Akame ga Kill.
Unrealized love of Sheele
In the anime Akame ga Kill, Sheele is an introverted person with fewer words and a warm heart.
She grew up in the low districts of the Capital.
Sheele was so clumsy that many people often consider her useless.
That factor isolated her from nearly everyone.
Later, after she joined Night Raid, she was attentive to every little need of everyone.
In short, she existed to be of help to her close persons but she couldn’t as everyone in Night Raid was too competent.
Sheele’s disposition made her comfort Tatsumi by hugging him when he was in grief at the loss of his friends, Ieyasu and Sayo.
In the process, she found a reason for her belonging.
But due to her introverted nature, she wasn’t able to express her feelings to Tatsumi, which unbeknownst to her, grew up to be, love for him.
She and Mine were fighting Seryu Ubiquitous while protecting Mine from the Teigu(Imperial Arms) of Seryu she became the sacrifice.
In her last moment, when she was barely hanging on her life, realized her love and longing for Tatsumi, but it was too late then.
Her love for Tatsumi remained unrealized.
Brotherly love of Bulat
In Akame ga Kill, Bulat was a charismatic individual, with an excellent skill to fight.
He was in the Imperial Army previously, but after witnessing the corruption, he left there and joined Night Raid to clean the trash of the Empire.
He was most welcoming of Tatsumi after Leone, in the entire Night Raid at the beginning.
It maybe wasn’t of a romantic type, but the bonding of Tatsumi and Bulat of Night Raid was of very much importance.
He was the first confidant in Night Raid who provided Tatsumi with the necessary courage to move forward.
In Akame ga Kill, he was the mentor figure to Tatsumi in the entire Night Raid.
His fist of love often brought Tatsumi into a sense, when he lost his cool and was about to make a rash decision.
After Bulat’s death, Tatsumi realized, how much of a place in his heart Bulat occupied.
Bulat also was very hopeful, and very trusting of Tatsumi and his future growth, according to Leone.
Bulat even left his Teigu(Imperial Arms)I“Incursio” for Tatsumi to use as a sign of his brotherly love for Tatsumi.
Both their mutual trust and brotherly love were the only forms of love that were mutually reciprocated in the entire Akame ga Kill series.
Rational Chelsea in love
After the death of both Shelee and Bulat of Night Raid in the story of Akame ga Kill, Najenda brought two more members to the team.
One of those members was Chelsea.
She was an expert in disguise which her Teigu “Gaea Foundation” helped.
She was as expert as Akame in carrying out her assassination missions except she was more rational and cautious than any other members of the
Night Raid team as shown In Akame ga Kill.
But her rational demeanor came loose as she slowly fell in love with Tatsumi.
At first, she was just having fun, teasing Tatsumi, as she found him fun and interesting.
But later on, she found out more about good qualities of him.
Good qualities like, his constant aspiration to be a better version of himself, and his will to protect others at any cost, made her emotionally invested in him.
She started to take risks to get a better opinion of her from Tatsumi, which was unlike her.
In episode 17, she chased an exhausted Kurome to finish her off, to weaken the “Jaegers” which in turn could bring Night Raid a step closer to their success.
She did this in the hope of having a bright future with Tatsumi.
It was the first time she took a risk for someone else.
That action didn’t bring good results, as she was killed by the puppets of Kurome.
In her dying moments, she thought of what future she could have if she was successful and her love was realized.
Mine, winner in love
Mine is a typical tsundere character of Night Raid in Akame ga Kill series but had a few genuine attributes.
She always talked in a responsible straight-to-the-point manner, when needed.
She was very practical in decision-making.
Mine was quite the same as Chelsea in this aspect. She was the only person to deny letting a naive and weak Tatsumi join Night Raid.
She never shied away from any challenges but faced them head-on.
As she was a half of western country immigrant, she was bullied her whole childhood.
It was then he realized, that no one else except she could help herself.
From then on, she decided to stay on the side of winning, and after joining Night Raid, had the dream of forming a country, kind to Westerners and immigrants.
Until then, she didn’t have any leeway for any kind of weak emotions.
But, after seeing the repeated display of courage and conviction, by Tatsumi, her heart started to weaver.
This in due time turned into love unbeknownst to her.
There was an instance in the 21st episode where she ran off to save the imprisoned Tatsumi, which was unlike the practical her.
At the end of episode 21, as Mine was dying in the arms of Tatsumi, she shared her first and last kiss with him saying she become the winner in life and love as she declared her love for him.
At that moment her aim in life seemed to have changed, which in fact had happened a long time before unbeknownst to her.
The unrequited love of Lubbock
There isn’t much to tell about Lubbock’s love story in Akame ga Kill.
It’s a typical boy who falls in love with a girl and takes on a difficult challenge for her recognition.
Lubbock’s love interest is the boss of Night Raid, Najenda.
His unrequited love started from his childhood.
Previously, Najenda was General of the Empire and was adored by a young Lubbock.
Lubbock was a genius and was able to join the regiment of Najenda with ease.
Since then until she came to Night Raid, he followed her but couldn’t confess her.
He once told Tatsumi, that after the war between the revolution army and the Empire is over and a good country is formed, he will propose to Najenda.
But his wish remained unrealized as he was killed while trying to infiltrate the palace to Kill corrupt Prime Minister Honest.
An obsessive love of General Esdeath
I’ve kept the best for the last.
In Akame ga Kill, General Esdeath is an important antagonist with unique characteristics.
She is a cold-hearted brute, who loves torture and believes in survival of the fittest more than anything else.
Her unique Teigu was “Demon Extract” with the ability to freeze everything even time and space.
Due to her cold-heartedness, she was even called ice-woman by the most despicable villain Prime Minister Honest, in Akame ga Kill series.
Bet as cold as she may be, even she wanted to experience love, as she requested as a reward to the Emperor in episode 5.
Her cold heart started to melt, as she found love.
Girl found love
In a battle event, the innocent smile of Tatsumi captured her heart immediately.
Hence, started her obsession with him, as she had decided to get him for herself at any cost.
At their first meeting, she even puts on a collar with a chain, on Tatsumi, in case he escapes.
As time went by, her obsession started to grow and she took some steps which are very unlikely of her.
She started to see Tatsumi’s shadow everywhere after he left her grasp.
Later when they reunited again, Tatsumi was the first person she told about her past.
Previously she never backed off from torturing any convict.
But when it was revealed, Tatsumi was a Night Raid member and was imprisoned, she obstructed his torture and tried to save him.
In episode 14, the workaholic and warmonger General Esdeath enjoyed her time with Tatsumi with any normal girl in love.
In the last episode, at the time of her death, she embraced the cold corps of Tatsumi and froze both of them in ice resulting in the shattering of fine Ice particles.
Maybe she was the only person, who had the purest love for Tatsumi, as she wasn’t burdened by any sort of responsibility while in love.
Conclusion
All in all, in the series Akame ga Kill, more or less all of the major characters indulged in sweet and sad love, forming a love story.
Due to the dark nature of the story, none of the love stories came to fruition.
Even though, they left a lingering feeling of fulfillment for the viewers.
Because each of those characters was able to recognize their own feelings at the end.
