Soshiro Hoshina is elite among elites, the vice-captain of the 3rd Division Defense Force.
His family is kinda special and has been killing Kaiju since the early Muromachi period.
So being a decedent of a family like that, and having his skills to do the talk, he is a full package of destruction for Kaiju.
Bad enough for Kafka, Soshiro is especially good at killing small to medium-grade Kaiju.

The first slash went through his tough skin like a knife through butter and slashes kept on coming.
After some slashes, Soshiro managed to cut through his wrist and body to expose his vulnerable core.
However, Kafka is not exactly your run-of-the-mill, regular human, he’s a Kaiju for argument’s sake.
With the help of instant regeneration, while losing some of his vitality, he became good as new.
Even though Soshiro kept slicing through his flesh, Kafka didn’t point his attack towards him.
He didn’t do that because he knew his one strike was enough to kill Soshiro.

Being an expert, Soshiro soon found the inconsistency in Kaiju No.8’s(metamorphosed Kafka’s) movement, who was only defending, not attacking.
Finally, using a nice strategy, Shoshiro pierced his chest, where his core is.
However, using some weird morphing Kafka got his blade to get stuck in his chest.

Reno woke up and thanked him for saving him and Iharu, not knowing Iharu was beside him.
