In Kaiju No.8 episode 10, Daikaiju was having a one-on-one with Hoshina, turned gigantic at moment’s notice upon facing danger brought disaster at Tachikawa Base.
Previously, in Kaiju No.8 Episode 9, a Daikaiju raided Tachikawa Base, the home base of the third division of the Defence Force, accompanied by wyvern-type Honjus.
That Daikaiju had human-like emotions and came to find a worthy opponent to fight and in the end eat to build up strength.
Unfortunately, Captain Mina was away from the base, so Vice-Captain Hoshina Soshiro had to deal with that.
While, other Honjus were showing unusual behaviors, by working in teams, just like humans, The limited platoons that were in the base were struggling with the solution.
But, soon that struggle came to a stop, as all the platoons, that were on off duty, came rushing and turned the tide with the help of Kafka’s veteran knowledge.
In the meantime, Hoshina, after being overwhelmed by that Daikaiju for some time, finally started to retaliate and was slicing and dicing it apart.
After slicing it to some extent, that Daikaiju’s core became exposed and it started its gigantification.

How Did Hoshina Faught With Daikaiju?
That Daikaiju turned big, very big, almost gigantic, brought disaster to the training zone of the Tachikawa base.
Kafka felt the impending danger with his kaiju sense, even though he wasn’t metamorphosed, such was the gravity of the situation.
Hoshina Soshiro on the other hand was emptying his repertoire of Hoshina Style Swordsmanship, Third Style: Return Slasher, while aiming for Daikaiju’s core on the back.
He tried in vain since his blades weren’t enough to slice through its tough skin, and his battle suit exceeded the operational limit.
Hence, the kamikaze attack by other Honjus, guided by Daikaiju, started.
The situation was quite bleak, still, Hoshina attempted another guerilla attack on that Daikaiju, slashing with, Sixth Style, only to be blown away and the battle suit deactivated.
The atmosphere of the command room was grim, but they found out Hoshina was ok but with a battered body.
He was unable to release his battle suit’s full potential, he slashed with technique(Hoshina-style swordsmanship) instead of power.
He didn’t want to betray Mina’s trust in him and protect the base at any cost.
The reason, why he chose to do so, was she accepted his potential talent, which nobody else would.
He fought with all his might with Daikaiju, with his wits, but there was a limit to how much damage a blade could do to a gigantic kaiju.
Hoshina Fought Alongside Mina
As he was about to be crushed to death, the savior came, it was Captain Mina with a gun blazing.
His work wasn’t done yet, he had to make it easy for Mina to blast that damnd Daikaiju away.
Teaming Up with Kikoru and other members of different platoons, Hoshina squeezed out the last of his strength and cut an open path for Mina to aim at that Daikaiju, which She did and exposed its now enlarged core.
That disastrous Daikaiju was now in shambles and Mina did shoot through it, decimating it.
Hoshina made the impossible, possible by fending off the gigantic Daikaiju, from spreading further disaster with only his blades and wit.
Hoshina, As We Discover Him Anew
In society, to excel, you need to be recognized by social norms or what the present situation requires not just what you excel at.
being best at the thing society doesn’t demand at present is worse than being average at something that society accepts.
Hoshina may seem like a happy-go-lucky, with a bit of shrewdness mixed within himself, kind of guy, but that isn’t the entire truth.
he was the prodigy of Hoshina-style swordsmanship from his early childhood, towering above others.
But, he had a weakness, his aptitude with large guns was poor.
His father, even higher command in the defense force, didn’t recognize his effort with blades and swords, since more and more large kaiju sightings were being reported.
Blades or swords against such kaiju were useless.
But, Mina was different, she accepted him as he was, a blade expert.
He had a rising loyalty, built inside him over time, for her.
That was the reason he put his life on the line to protect Tachikawa Base, which was left in his capable hands by Mina.
Before he dived into full frontal assault, he even made sure of, civilian’s safety, this proved his dedication to his calling, a defense force officer.
In short, he is a loyal, and responsible individual.
He gave his all to fend off the disastrous Daikaiju to cut open a path with his swordsmanship which Mina put her trust in.
Will Kafka Finally Make A Move?
The battle was over, and Kafka didn’t have to transform!!
It has been the case from the previous episode.
Well, there was an instance where he almost transformed, when Hoshina was about to be crushed by that Daikaiju to death, but since Mina came to rescue, he didn’t have the chance.
This was, in fact, a good thing for Kafka, as he was wanted by the Defence force as Kiju No.8.
But fate always works in wonderous ways, as he was compelled to make an extreme choice.
All those kaiju with self-destruct capabilities gathered in one place in mid-air, forming a bomb-like mechanism, enough to compare with 20 kilotons of TNT.
it was too late to evacuate, and it was time for Kafka to shine.
And here I thought, this time also will be a dud.
Kafka transformed into his kaiju form and punched that bomb-like thing higher up in the sky, exhausting his strength.
He made his move, now it was the Defence Force’s turn to repay him in their own way.
They did that, by encircling him, and asking him to surrender!!
Mina was the one, who took the first initiative!!
Now, what will happen to Kafka?
To Know that, stay tuned for the next episode…
