Want to know what is Re:Monster is like? Imagine if you die an untimely death and are reborn as a monster, what would you do, would you give up and live as your fate dictates or try to defy it and forge your way? Re:Monster is a series with the answer to such fundamental questions.
Re:Monster is an anime animated by Studio Deen produced by Genco, and adapted from the manga illustrated by Kobayakawa Haruyoshi which was further adapted from the light novel by Kanekiru Kogitsune.
The story is quite interesting.
The protagonist, who can gain the trait of whatever he eats, dies and is reborn in a different world as a goblin, with his ability intact, making him a bit different from other goblins.
With his ability, he boasts rapid growth which was unheard of among goblins, and becomes involved in many adventures and different turns of events, which makes the story more interesting.
Now, to determine the reasons for this anime being so interesting, further discussion is paramount.

The Anime Re:Monster Continues Differently Than Other Reincarnation Anime
I have seen a fair share of reincarnation anime, in the majority of those, in most instances, the protagonist gets a head start or emotional support to continue forward from the very beginning.
However, in Re:Monster such privilege is entirely absent, all the protagonist could muster after his birth was his intellect from his previous life, and capitalizing on that privilege and using his perpetual grit and wit he managed to break out of the goblin shell.
The anime itself continues in a log style, which continues up to four months from the rebirth of the protagonist.
During this arc of the story, nearly every day of this duration is journalized, and this is a fresh approach to experience as a viewer.
All the events that transpire, are toned down to the extent that one doesn’t need to linger with a single event for a long time to perceive the importance of the next event, so the continuation of the story isn’t delayed anywhere in the middle.
Inclusion Of Realism In Re:Monster
Unlike other reincarnation anime Re:monster maintains its originality and stays close to reality regarding its consequences.
Even in epic anime like That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, the protagonist deviates from normal life and starts to produce not-so-normal results, after his rebirth, but the true essence of the protagonist of Re:Monster remains normal.
It’s all about family to the Protagonist, and as he kept on increasing his family he also kept protecting them but never had any grandiose dreams, like building a kingdom(cough, That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime).
Although there is some harem element included in the story, that doesn’t occupy the majority of the story to divert the viewers, instead adds a fresh touch to the story in the process.
If one thinks about the overall lifecycle shown in this anime, even one without any keen observation skills could notice that every phase of life is depicted in a relatable way in this story.
From birth, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood, to death, all phase of life is shown smoothly, so that it doesn’t become burdensome to the viewers.
Animation And Character Design In Re:Monster
The animation quality is decent in Re:Monster though to match the story, a better quality animation could be more appropriate.
background animation seemed somewhat lacking which affected the overall charm of the story since the background animation was somewhat stale compared to the character animation.
However, character animation also wasn’t something exceptional, it was something to make do with, though that didn’t affect the story so much still it could have been better to have a better and more lively animation like Jobless Reincarnation had, to complement the story.
Now if we come to the character design, it is somewhat satisfactory, not fantastic, however, it works, and even if it’s not much better, it’s enough to depict each character accordingly.
Not only the protagonist but each supporting character and side character haven’t been designed with negligence.
Though not very detailed the character design somewhat brings out the quirkiness of the characters.
The Protagonist In Re:Monster
The protagonist in Re:Monster isn’t some ambitious one who dreams of a grandiose goal in fact he can’t since he isn’t blessed from birth like other protagonists.
What is likable about this protagonist is his unlimited hunger for improvement and his aim to protect his family.
Although he can be rough around the edges, he is an absolute sweetheart when it comes to his family.
All the characteristic traits of the protagonist couldn’t be more down-to-earth, though there exists some other protagonists in other anime who have the same characteristic traits, he is the only one who maintains this trait throughout the story arc, along with his contradicting hunger for power.
So, it can be safely stated that the protagonist of Re:Monster is more relatable than other protagonists of other reincarnation animes.
Ending Of The Story Of Re:Monster
From the beginning till the end of the story of Re:Monster, there isn’t any sort of visible discrepancy that could disturb the story flow, especially since the ending contains a healthy cliffhanger, this story arc couldn’t be more perfectly depicted.
Not having any kind of gap in the story and systematic progression of the events, kept the depiction of the overall arc flawless, and that’s why the anime manages to keep its viewers engaged to it.
Though the ending is generic, it doesn’t stress unnecessary details, so it makes the ending easy to digest for the viewers and equally keeps them anticipating the next story arc.
Final Thought
After some careful consideration, and analysis, Re:Monster seems like a series that is not so extraordinary but something, that is engaging enough to keep rewatching its episodes again and again, at least according to me.
Not having any impactful twist doesn’t make the story lacking but it helps viewers to focus on the overall story more, so its easy approach becomes the strength of the story.
