The question we will address is if Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest is any different than previous Fairy Tail seasons, and how so.
Well, first and foremost, yes Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest is different from the previous seasons of Fairy Tail, and there are a number of reasons for that.
Since this season of Fairy Tail is animated by studio J.C.Staff, its animation quality varies quite significantly, but the type remains the same.
Otherwise, there are no major changes in animation, however, there are some other changes that transpired in this season, which caught my eye after at least watching 8 episodes.
So, let’s discuss that.

Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest Focuses On Antagonist More Than Previous Seasons
Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest, unlike other seasons of Fairy Tail, starts to focus on the antagonist from the very beginning unlike the first season, which started to focus on the protagonist Lucy like any other story, from the very beginning.
Though the story quickly diverts the attention toward the team Natsu that was on the actual 100 Year Quest, however, time to time, there are instances where the antagonist the White Mage with a dual personality makes her appearance in this season, at least up to the 8th episode.
The antagonist’s appearance at the very beginning wasn’t perceived though, since revealing her true identity was used as a twist in a later episode, which was very unlike of a normal Fairy Tail season.
What more, is the primary personality of White Mage Touka is another variable that helped make this season more interesting than previous seasons of Fairy Tail where the most unique antagonist Zeref Dragneel was mostly a broken hero, nothing more.
Not having any grandiose entrance or impactful presence of the antagonist and involving her like any other important character of the story in fact makes it more engaging for the viewers I think, since in this way, the character seems more natural as it interacts with other important characters which was kind of difficult with Achnlogia and Zeref Dragneel, since they were shown as some larger than life character from the very beginning.
So, differently, Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest, prioritizes its antagonist much more than than previous seasons of the Fairy Tail.
Overall Difference Of Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest
Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest isn’t quite like previous seasons of Fairy Tail, since there are many factors that create a different vibe about it.
First and foremost, since this season spends very little time building up the pace of the story and very quickly dives into the adventure of team Natsu, the overall vibe of the story feels like some short sequences of adventure.
There are also intense battle sequences from, kind of beginning, which makes the story of this season more rushed, but in a good way, which proves to be one of the major reasons why this season’s nearly every episode, at least up to the 8th episode remains equally entertaining.
Battle against Dragon Eater Guild Diabolos, battle against Water Dragon Mercophobia who is a good dragon but due to White Mage’s scheme berserk, all those major events are covered very early in this season from episodes 1-6, which may have made the mood of the series more intense.
Otherwise, introducing some of the major antagonistic characters from previous seasons confronting the new villains, is not very Fairy Tail kind of way, which makes Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest kind of different.
Well, Jellal Fernandes is one thing, since he has already turned a new leaf, but the sudden appearance of Brandish is quite unexpected, and it’s still unclear if it’s her guest appearance or not.
Except for all that, there are some hints of grown-up stuff in this season also, some may say indecency, but I will say those are required humor.
I mean, come on, it’s been many years after the first season of Fairy Tail first season, and old viewers also have grown up a little bit, besides, those stuff are not that much explicit as one thinks them to be.
So, these are also quite positive differences, as seen in Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest.
All these make Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest different from other Fairy Tail seasons.
Final Thought
After watching Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest up to its 8th episode, it’s quite clear that its story buildup, pacing, and execution are quite different from the previous seasons of Fairy Tail.
There are also many instances that have no precedence, making this season quite different.
Those instances are what make this season more engaging and more unique.
In other words, having those differences makes Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest more unique than previous seasons.
So, it can be safely said that Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest is different.
