Posted on May 12, 2024June 8, 2024 By swetabjya No Comments on Kaiju no.8, limited time for success in episode 5

Time stops for no one. Every person has a limited time for success in a given subject.

Being young also can’t help one to make up for missing time. So, one in his thirties can not expect much when he has a time cap to success.

Even though the protagonist of the story, is in such an unfavorable condition, he struggles to achieve his target.

Being in his thirties, he has to compete with his much younger rivals to increase his value.

In this episode, such strenuous days in the life of the protagonist, are to be seen.

Previously…

Previously, a badly wounded Kafka gets on his feet by sheer willpower.

His mate Reno Ichikawa helped him to navigate through the test field by holding him on his shoulder, while Kafka supported Reno with his brain and attacking capabilities.

On the other hand, promising examinee Kikoru was performing like a veteran and eliminated all low-level Kaiju codename Yoju and moved on to Mid-level Kaiju Honju.

After successfully eliminating the Honju she was feeling elated, but trouble struck then.

She was shot by some projectile that came from a human-shaped Kaiju with intelligence.

It, woke every dead Kaiju evolved them further, and ordered them to attack all the examinees.

As Kikoru was about to be the one to be eliminated, Kafka saved her in the Nick of time using his Kaiju transformation.

After saving Kikoru, he requested her to keep this a secret, which she did.

When Vice-captain Hoshina asked her if she killed the Kaiju?

She answered yes.

Next…

This episode builds up suspense at first. Kafka and Reno both receive their exam result.

Suspense starts from here on out.

The next scene is at the enlistment ceremony.

Two of the top examinees, Aoi Kaguragi and Haruichi Izumo converse with each other about the aim of their future and Haruichi shows concern for

Kafka and Reno as he couldn’t see them in the ceremony.

On the other hand, another brilliant examinee Iharu Furuhashi accidentally met Reno and asked him about Kafka.

In the meantime, Kikoru came in.

Next came the captain of the third division of the defense force, Mina Ashiro.

Being the top scorer, Kikoru was asked to represent others in taking the oath.

On the podium, after taking the oath, Mina thanked her for taking care of the Honju singlehandedly after the end of the exam.

Kikoru couldn’t accept that praise wholeheartedly.

Enter the old man

As her eyes were wandering in search of Kafka, he entered the venue.

He wasn’t qualified to be an officer so he was recruited as a cadet by Vice-captain Soshiro Hoshina.

His quality in quick decision-making abundance of knowledge in Kaiju and sense of humor interested him.

But all those reasons were of surface, the main reason was different.

When the evolved Honju attacked, another Kaiju was showing a fortitude of 9.8 in the vicinity. Kafka was the only one whose vital sign reading went off.

This coincidence raised suspicion in Hoshina’s mind so he kept him in the team to observe him closely.

Kikoru had lots of questions in store for Kafka and all of them were answered when he heard about Kafka’s transformative story.

Training

On the first day of training, most of the trainees performed quite well.

Reno completed his training in 2:35 minutes and his unleashed combat power was 18%, 10% more than the previous measurement.

Reno completed his training

From then on, all the stars of the exam were evaluated.

Iharu Furuhashi, training completed in 2:15 minutes and his unleashed combat power, 20%.

Iharu Furuhashi

Kikoru Shinomiya was the greatest of them, training was completed in 1:16 minutes and her unleashed combat power was 55%.

Kikoru Shinomiya was the greatest of them

Aoi Kaguragi completed in 1:59 minutes and his unleashed combat power was 25%.

Aoi Kaguragi

Amidst all these excellent results, Kafka did something extraordinary. His time to training completion was a whopping 6:39 minutes.
But he somehow managed to raise his 0% unleashed combat power to 1%.

Race against time

Vice-captain Hoshina reminded Kafka that his limited time for success is only three months.

After three months he will be fired, given he doesn’t show any concrete results.

The first day was somehow over for Kafka, but he realized he was on borrowed time.

Forgetting the age barrier, he started to interact, learn and train with his batchmates.

In the meantime, in a moment of carelessness, he ended up telling the childhood promise between him captainingMina Ashiro, that they decided to

join the Defense Force when they grow up and fight against Kaiju.

This information reached Hoshina’s ear, and he showed interest in this subject matter, as he noticed Kafka working harder than any trainee.

Finally…

One day, while burning his night lamp to catch up in studying with his younger batchmates in his limited time for success, he came face to face with vice-captain Hoshina.

He said he heard the history and promise between Kafka and the captain.

But to fight together with her means, Kafka is aiming for his chair.

Kafka gave an assertive answer.

Hoshina also said he won’t be letting Kafka get his spot easily.

He also warned him not to get too attached to his teammates, as no one knows what will happen tomorrow.
This in turn may hurt him more.

During this conversation, an alert alarm rang….

Now, what may come next, to know that, stay tuned for the next episode…
