Why Does All For One Wants One For All Obsessively?

Posted on July 2, 2024July 2, 2024 By swetabjya No Comments on Why Does All For One Wants One For All Obsessively?

My Hero Academia, a blockbuster, was first released in 2016 and has been a head-turner. Especially the villain All For One and his obsession over One For All is paramount in this series.

The question is, why does All For One want One For All?

There are multiple reasons for All For One to obsess over the quirk, One For All.

  • The first reason is, that this quirk originated from him and his brother, whom he loved in his twisted way, but after his brother’s death, according to his twisted logic, obtaining One For All was the only way for him to reunite with his brother.
  • The second reason is, that All For One can use multiple quirks at the same time, but can’t fuse their power, so they remain as simple copies of the previous owner’s power, on the other hand, the quirk, One For All was able to retain and combine all of it’s previous user’s quirks, making them more powerful then those were previously. This nature of One For All makes it a bane to All For One’s quirk, so he had to stop the strength of One For All from growing.
  • The third reason is, that the power and potency of One For All were irresistible for All For One, because as cliche as it is, he wanted to become the Demon Lord of the modern world, and the power of One For All could help him take large step ahead towards his goal.

To understand the probable reason among them, maybe we need to know in detail about All For One as a person and One For All.

History Of All For One And The Birth Of One For All

A world filled with superpowers, where most humans are metahumans or people with quirks and quirks are the source of such powers.

All For One, whose original name isn’t mentioned in anime, is a person who can steal another’s quirk or transfer it to another and has made a name for himself as a renowned villain.

However, he had a brother named Yoichi, who was against the notion of taking away power or giving others power at whim and playing god.

But Yoichi belonged to those rare populations, who were born quirkless, and it was out of his power to stop his brother from those atrocities.

To make matters worse, All For One, due to his twisted love, forced the ability to stack quirks in his brother’s body to stack excess quirks in his body in the future.

However, unbeknownst to All For One, his brother, already had the ability to transfer quirk to others, and both of the quirks amalgamated to form a unique quirk.

that quirk can transfer one’s culminated power to others willingly and it will go on this way, making the quirk itself more potent and powerful.

This quirk was One For All.

As the metahuman society was facing the danger known as All For One, they had to build a resistance group to fight against him, and two members of that group, Kudo, and Bruce, rescued Yoichi from All For One’s captivity.

Later, when Yoichi’s quirk One For All is transferred to Kudo, and begins the journey of increasing and building up powers using and transferring the quirk One For All, to fulfill Yoichis wish to stop his brother one day.

But at this stage, All For One had already lost his brother, and the only remembrance of his brother was the quirk One For All, which also was a bane to his quirk.

He couldn’t stand to part away from his brother’s memento, but also couldn’t leave something dangerous to him in another’s hand, so he planned to take that quirk for himself.

His logic was simple, something that came from him should return to him as well.

One For All And It’s Future

Above is the beginning of the dark legend of All For One, and the birth Of One For All as a deterrent of All For One.

let’s come to the future, where All For One has already been defeated once by a hero named All Might, the 8th user of the power of One For All, and was imprisoned.

But in the battle with All For One, All Might was gravely injured by All For One and had to limit his activity.

Next, he had to go to a hero education school, his alma mater, UA High, as a teacher to find his successor, to whom he would transfer the quirk he possessed.

He found a courageous boy, who was quirkless just as he was before receiving the One For All from the 7th user Shimura Nana.

Deciding him as his successor, All Might transferred the quirk One For All to that courageous boy named Midoriya Izuku.

All Might transferred the quirk One For All

On the Other hand, All For One was scheming from his captivity in Tartarus prison, as he had already selected a successor to him, or in his case a vessel for him, Shimura Tenko, grandson of Nana, and named him Shigaraki Tomura, using his surname.

After tasting defeat at the hands of All Might, All For One realized that the current potency of One For All is much more than before because none of the users of the past could defeat him.

He was grooming Shigaraki Tomura to be the future vessel of his consciousness(which he nearly succeeded in making in episode 141), as his body was nearly a wreck after All Might was done with him.

So, he already had one card to become stronger in the future, and the other card was One For All.

The grown power of One For All became irresistible for him, as he understood that only this power could make him invincible and become one of the helping tools in becoming ruler of the world in the future.

Later when he tested the power of One for All in Midoriy Izuku by the hand of Shigaraki Tomura and found out that it had grown more, it became absolutely necessary for him to obtain that quirk to grow even more powerful.

Final Thought

All For One never paid attention to anything in the past, except his brother Yoichi, and in the future, there is another inclusion, which is the quirk that was born from the amalgamation of his and his brother’s latent quirk.

However, he learned about that quirk very late, his brother was already dead then.

Although in a twisted way, he loved his brother and never gave up even after his death, as he thought he could have his brother beside him if he got One For All for himself.

Even after losing to the user of One For All pathetically once and having his body wrecked to the extent, that he couldn’t survive without a life support system, he still didn’t hate the quirk, there could be only two reasons.

One, he was enticed by how powerful that quirk was and wanted that for himself.

Two, he couldn’t give up his lingering feelings towards his dead brother Yoichi and just couldn’t hate something that was born of him.

If we analyze the situation properly, we could say that, if All For One was only enticed by the power of One For All, he could hate it and use it for his benefit.

All For One is always shown to be smiling in anticipation whenever One For All is mentioned, which shows his affection surrounding it, to be precise, the memento that his brother left.

So it could be easily said, that even though one of the reasons for pursuing One For All was gaining more power, for All For One, the main reason was his longing to unite with his brother and have him stand beside him when he has achieved greatness.
